Unlock Your Best Run with running coach John Goldthorp

Whether it's running your first 5K, earning that Boston Qualifier, or just staying injury free, I'll help you get there

Why Choose Fix Your Run?

For 25 years, I've helped frustrated runners across the world with a positive, motivating coaching style and an unwavering belief that everyone can improve and continue doing what they love their entire lives.

You’re stuck and frustrated

You’ve hit a plateau and can’t seem to move forward, no matter how hard you try on your own.

You’re Dreaming of Boston

Qualifying for and racing the Boston Marathon is a lifelong goal—and one of the most rewarding experiences in running.

You’ve followed advice from books & magazines—only to end up injured

A coach can help you tailor your training plan so it fits into your hectic lifestyle while still getting the results you want.

You Need a Boost

Coaching isn't just about prescribing workouts. It's being part detective and part cheerleader, so I can understand what we need to work on together and how we can make running fun again.

You’re Worried About Getting Hurt (Again)

Want to be confident that you’re running with proper form and training correctly, so that they're less likely to get hurt.

You want to rediscover the joy in running.

There’s nothing like the thrill of running again after time off or feeling out of shape—and you want to experience that incredible feeling for yourself.

Tailored Plans for Real Life

Your training plan should fit your schedule—not the other way around. I design programs that adapt to your busy life, so you see real progress without added stress.

What Does Coaching Look Like?

Movement Assessment

Pain and stiffness aren’t always fixed with foam rolling, stretching, and strength training. My detailed movement assessments uncover the root cause of your issues, so we can decrease injury risk, increase efficiency, and keep you running strong.

Strength Training

A stronger athlete (yes, that’s you) is more resilient and has a larger potential to improve. And, not only that, life is simply better when you’re stronger. My custom strength plans help you move better, feel stronger, and handle whatever life throws at you (even four bags of groceries).

Whether you want to learn how to do it yourself or know you'll stick with something if you have an appointment on the calendar, my job is to help you achieve your goals.

By training consistently with me and following a custom-designed, online program, you'll get the expertise, accountability, and motivation you need.

Anatomy In Motion® (AiM)

Addressing What Causes Pain, Not Just Where It Hurts

Stretching, massage, foam rolling, and strength training can help people get rid of pain or stiffness, but it's not always that simple. In fact, those approaches are often incomplete.

When running, no joint should be still - every joint should be participating. Having access to all of our joint movements means we can make the ‘shapes’ necessary with our body to absorb shock and propel ourselves forward well. If we lack access to some joint movements, of course we can still run, but we will be less efficient distribute the forces less evenly through our body.

In addition to my Kinesiology (BS Penn State ’00) background and years of movement education, I rely heavily on Anatomy In Motion® (AiM) in my assessment process. Put simply, my AiM® training helps me identify what’s missing to address the cause of the dysfunction, stiffness, or pain. Which means we can work together to fix the cause of the problem, not just the site of the pain.

CLIENT EXPERIENCE : ANDREW BAER

Meet my amazing client, Andrew Baer, age 70, sprinter, middle distance, and ultra runner from Rhode Island. After reading a few of these posts, he wanted to share his experience of working with me so you can better understand what it's like to work on your biomechanics and improve as a result.

Let’s turn your goals into reality.

Before we start any training, I always take the time to connect with my clients to talk through aspirations, the challenges, and map out the path to the next milestone
