Guilt Free Cake? It is possible.
You can’t be “fast” without having some semblance of strength (or horsepower) in reserve. You can’t improve your timed mile, or taking a bit further, your marathon time if you can’t generate more force into the ground to propel yourself forward. You also can't eat "cake"...
How Much Should You Exercise?
Drugs are prescribed with the “minimum effective dose” in mind. What is the least amount of drug that needs to be taken to have the desired effect? 2000mg of aspirin would definitely dull your pain, but maybe 200mg would give you the same relief with less chance of, uh, liver toxicity. What is the least amount of exercise needed to give you the result you want?
Caught in the Training Whirlpool?
One thing I learned early on was that if you want to reach a high peak with your fitness, you need to dip into a low valley, too. Does this mean losing fitness?
The Perilous First Six Months
Ever notice runners tend to get injured within a few months of consistent training? If you know the way your body adapts, perhaps you can make smarter training decisions.
If Running Sucks, Then You're Doing It Wrong
Have you ever had the feeling that you're just not cut out to be a runner? The Feel Good Run
Does it like to be thrust into 8 minute/mile pace right from the start? Does it like the monotony of the same pace for the duration of every run? Are you pleased with the results you've achieved from the workouts you run? Introducing The Feel Good Run.
How Well Do You Respond To Training?
A few minutes into lunch she revealed her real goal: qualifying for the Boston Marathon. And she didn't mean eventually. She wanted to qualify AT Marine Corps. This after telling me she'd just run Broad Street in 1:26, or close to the same pace she'd have to maintain for 26.2 miles. Would this be possible?
How to Approach Summer Run Training
This time of year has made me cringe for the last several years. The heat and humidity in the Philly area can be stifling and training for long distance races is uncomfortable and potentially dangerous. Is there any way to put a positive spin on the situation?
Where Do I Go From Here?
After you've celebrated your accomplishment of running a big race one of two things happens. You're either ready to turn your attention elsewhere and focus on some other aspect of life or you're more motivated than ever and want to sign up for another race. So what's the next step for you?
Respect This Or Pay The Price
Perhaps by continuing to train with devices wrapped around your knees you will get better on your own, but we both know that's not gonna happen. Training with braces, wraps, tape, etc is simply training in denial...
Got Endurance?
This post is for the runner who is genuinely concerned about not only getting to the finish line, but getting to the starting line. You've got 6 weeks and you need to triple your endurance WITHOUT getting hurt. Let's get to it!
